Welcome! What do you think it is like for those who are living in the Houston, TX area this morning? There is nothing worse than a flood. It takes a long time to recover from a flood. I have seen what flood waters can do to people’s homes in Wahpeton, ND, Breckenridge, MN, Minot, ND and along the Knife River in Dunn County, ND. The church basement in Marshall, ND had water a few inches deep over new carpeting and kitchen flooring. The water has to recede before you can start removing sheetrock, carpeting, mop boards, paneling and cabinets, in order to dry out the place. Nothing can be done until the rooms are completely dry and disinfected against mold. It takes a lot of time before you get to the rebuilding stage. Then it’s who can you find to do the work? Every electrician, plumber and carpenter is spoken for! You can’t stay in a house that may not have any power, is smelly, has no running water or workable sewer and is ripped apart. What is a person to do? Bills still need to be paid, you can’t go to work because your vehicle is submerged and all the roads are blocked. You can’t even get your mail! It’s a new normal. Pray for those who can’t attend their church today but are doing the best that they can for their family and neighbors. If you want to do something to help, give to one of the many charities like Thrivent, Samaritan’s Purse or The Salvation Army. The recovery from Hurricane Harvey is going to take months and years.
